What is the SAT?

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), owned by The College Board, is taken by more than two million students throughout 190 countries and territories. Students take it because the SAT is one of the best ways to show colleges your knowledge, skills, and potential. Collegeboard also provides free college planning resources that help students choose and apply to colleges that are a good fit for students. It also connects students to scholarships and merit aid to help pay for college. If a student opts to participate in the Student Search Service when s/he registers for the SAT, the student hears from colleges, universities, and scholarship programs.

How do I register for the SAT?

All students get the opportunity to take the SAT for FREE at GHS during the spring (usually March/April) of their junior year. If you would like to take the SAT on another date, please go to collegeboard.org

SAT Fee Waivers

If you qualify for free or reduced lunch at GHS, you can qualify for a waiver to take the SAT for free. Please contact your CCMR Counselor (schroedere@georgetownisd.org) to get a waiver code.

How should I prepare for the SAT?

Take the PSAT at GHS in October. This will give you an idea of the length of the test and also where your scores fall. Khan Academy also has free practice online that will help you prepare.

SAT Subject Tests

There are 20 SAT Subject Tests available in 5 general subject areas (English, Math, Science, History, and Languages). These tests help you differentiate yourself on college applications. They may also help you skip intro-level courses to earn college credit.

ACT

What is the ACT?

The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject areas tests in English, Math, Reading, and Science. The ACT with writing includes the four subject area tests plus a 40-minute writing test. ACT results are accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the US. The ACT includes 215 multiple-choice questions and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete including a short break. The actual testing time is 2 hours and 55 minutes (plus 40 minutes if you are taking the ACT with writing).

How do I register for the ACT?
