The 2022 - 2023 season will begin Mr. Scruggs’ 22nd year working with the Georgetown High School Colorguard program.He began working with the group from 1998 - 2000 and then returned in 2004.In 2005, he began teaching full time at Georgetown High School as one of the Dance Teachers at Georgetown HS.
Mr. Scruggs graduated in 2002 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Dance Education.He has been involved in the field of colorguard for the past 29 years.His teaching credits include Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps (caption head), The Colts Drum and Bugle Corps, SWT Marching Band, Millennia Winterguard, Identity Independent Winterguard, Connally HS, Hendrickson HS, Stony Point HS, Hays HS, as well as assisting with many colorguard programs in the Central Texas area.
His performing credits include The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, DCI I&E Flag Solo Champion (1997), Nolan Independent Winterguard, Millennia Independent Winterguard, SWT Bobcat Band, and the Circle of Friends Dance Company. In 2020, he was named the Texas Colorguard Circuit 'Director of the Year."
Colorguard Assistant Director:
Miquela Maldonado
Ms. Maldonado is in her 6th year working with the Georgetown High School Colorguard as a member of the Guard Staff. She previously has worked as a Colorguard Instructor on and off over the past 7 years, as well as having been a volunteer during past seasons. She was a valuable part of the GTCG Staff that helped the group win their 2021 TCGC West Championship titles.
Ms. Maldonado is a graduate of the GHS Colorguard and Band program, having Colorguard from her Sophmore year through her senior year. Ms. Maldonado graduated in 2012 after the "Gone But Not Forgotten" show.
After graduating high school, Ms. Maldonado wanted to continue her love for color guard so she decided to become a member of the A2 Independent Winterguard based in Austin for the 2013. In addition, she worked as a Colorguard instructor for East View HS and Taylor HS.
Colorguard Staff:
Miranda Strawther
Ms. Strawther is in her 2nd year of working with the Georgetown High School Colorguard as a member of the Guard Staff.
Ms. Maldonado is a graduate of the Cedar Park HS, having been in the Colorguard from all four years of high school. Ms. Strawther was a part of the Cedar Park Winterguard when they traveled to and competed in the 2018 WGI World Championships.
After graduating high school, Ms. Strawther become a member of the Origins A Independent Winterguard based in Austin for the 2021, and is planning on marching again in 2022. She hopes to audition for a drum corps for the 2022 DCI summer season.
Colorguard Staff:
Casey Kunze
The this will be Mr. Kunze's 4th year assisting/working with the Georgetown High School Colorguard program.
Mr. Kunze is a graduate of the James Bowie HS in Austin, having been in the Colorguard from his Sophomore through his Senior Year of high school. Mr. Kunze was a part of the James Bowie Open Winterguard when they traveled to and were Scholastic open finalists at the 2014 WGI World Championships. After graduating high school, he marched with Black Gold and Invictus Winterguards. In addition he has performed with extremely successful Drum Corps such as The Cavaliers, Santa Clara Vanguard, and Carolina Crown.
His teaching credits include The Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, Leander HS (Assistant), Round Rock HS, as well as instructing and consulting for Colorguard programs across the state. Mr. Kunze is currently the Director of Colorguard at Cedar Park HS.
Colorguard Summer Staff:
Kiarra Suarez
Kiarra Suarez spent her 3rd summer working with the Georgetown High School Colorguard as a member of the Guard Staff. While she is unable to be here full time during the year, she plans on serving as volunteer staff during the year when available.
Ms. Suarez is a graduate of the GHS Colorguard program, having been a member of the GTCG from her Freshman though her Senior year. She served as JV Section Leader her Freshman year, as well as Colorguard Captain her Senior year. Ms. Suarez graduated in 2015 after the "Snowblind" show.
After graduating high school, Ms. Suarez wanted to continue her love for color guard, so she auditioned and became a member of the 2015 Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2017 and 2018 she performed with ATX Independent Winterguard organizations, and competed in Dayton, OH at the Winterguard International (WGI) World Championships.
Currently Ms. Suarez has moved to Houston to attend the University of Houston. She plans on auditioning and marching for Spirit Independent for the 2020 Winterguard season.
